We tried the Viral Flower-Shaped Cookies...

Hi Flour Power Squad (can you tell I’m an elder Gen Z-er...) Hannah here to describe one of the “Insta vs Reality’ moments we have had on this Pod!


You know those adorable little Instagram-worthy biscuits that have been making the rounds lately? Particularly the little flower-shaped ones? Well, as our Pod is called Flour Power, we figured this bake would be absolutely perfect for us to do in our Weird-Dough Episode, and as neither of us had ever tried anything like this before, we did a practise run... There is a reason you’ve never seen the footage of this, as the file is gigantic, and so long!


What they don't tell you in the Reels is the time consuming thing about turning a ball of dough into 100s of little balls. Each flower was made of 5 balls, 4-5 of the petal colour & 1 for the centre. So per biscuit we were looking at 5 balls at least! All in all it took us well over an hour to shape all the dough into balls, and then we had to form the biscuits! We put in almost 2 hours of time and energy into these adorable little biscuits, only for them to turn out only tasting of flour… Not what you want from a “melting moments” cookie. 


The recipe we found did warn us that the biscuit-shaping might be tedious, but promised sweet, melt-in-the mouth biscuits with a similar consistency to shortbread. Perhaps it was the conversion from cups to grams, or using cornflour and icing sugar, but these little biscuits did not want to come together, and both of us needed to add more water to make a proper dough form. 


From start to finish it was a two and a half plus hour bake, in the test run - which didn't involve recording for the Pod, or having any scripted moments! So we had a re-think and decided on a tried-and-tested favourite, the humble chocolate-chip cookie, instead. 


So, what was the verdict?


Flower-Shaped “Melting Moments” - Recipe Rating 

Taste - 4/10 (moreish, but very floury) Time - 3/10 (took ages) Insta-worthiness - 10/10 Bake Again? - No!
